Colton Vasek, EDGE

A flip target that dominated the headlines throughout the fall for the Longhorns is the highly touted four-star Oklahoma Sooners commit and Austin Westlake edge rusher Colton Vasek. The local blue-chip edge rusher remains one of the top targets in the Longhorns 2023 class at this point of the fall.

Vasek would help Texas fill a big need at edge rusher in the 2023 class. He and four-star Skyridge (UT) edge rusher Tausili Akana are the two notable remaining recruiting targets at the position this fall.

Through the first two months of the season, Vasek was a common visitor at DKR for Longhorns games. He’s visited Texas twice unofficially this season for Longhorns games. Vasek was also in attendance at the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 8 for the Red River Rivalry that saw the Longhorns destroy the Sooners.

The number of times that Vasek visited Texas this fall for game weekends, along with the heightened effort of this staff and the commits in the Longhorns 2023 class, proved that there was some real traction for him with this team.

And while Vasek is the only recruit on this list that remains committed to another school at this point, it looks like he is considered the softest pledge in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. One more big move for the Longhorns might be enough to push him over the edge and flip his commitment to Texas.

Texas will get its chance to continue to chip away at Vasek’s commitment to the Sooners this weekend as he’s expected to be at DKR for the Longhorns’ matchup against the Horned Frogs on Nov. 12.

That’s not to mention the plethora of recruiting services that have predictions right now for Vasek’s commitment to Texas.

There were quite a few 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions and Rivals FutureCasts placed this week, all projecting Vasek’s commitment to Texas. Both of the On3 RPMs entered this week also predict Vasek to flip his commitment to Texas with a high confidence level.
