Tausili Akana, EDGE

After flipping Vasek’s commitment, it looks like the top remaining edge rusher target for the Longhorns 2023 class is the highly touted four-star Skyridge (UT) product Tausili Akana. If Texas can reel in a commitment from Akana before signing day next month, that would probably round out edge recruiting in the 2023 class.

Texas looks to be one of the top schools in the race to land a commitment from Akana at this point in the fall. And while Texas is going to face stiffer competition in the race to land Akana compared to Hill and/or McDonald, there is still a clear path to getting him in the 2023 class.

The other schools in the top group for Akana at the moment are the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. Akana visited all four of these top schools in the last couple of months, and I wouldn’t rule any of them out at this point to eventually land his commitment.

What Texas needs to do to land Akana when it’s all said and done is keep playing well along the defensive front in the next few games and keep building this relationship. Akana has ties to four-star Texas linebacker commit Liona Lefau, so if Texas can check those other two boxes off the list for Akana, I like their chances here on signing day.

I don’t believe Akana is expected on campus this weekend for an unofficial visit for the Texas-TCU game. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s done making visits to the Forty Acres before making his decision, which is anticipated to come a little bit before the Early Signing Period.
