Texas football just had one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the year when it hosted the No. 4 ranked TCU Horned Frogs for a key Big 12 contest at home on Nov. 12. Unfortunately, though, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity that was presented to them over the weekend to get a huge win over TCU on home turf in front of dozens of important visiting recruits.

Texas wound up falling completely flat on offense, putting a great defensive effort to waste in a sluggish 17-10 loss to the Horned Frogs.

Despite the loss to the horned Frogs over the weekend, it looks like Texas is still on good footing with most of the defensive recruits that visited for the game on Nov. 12. And one of the key recruits worth mentioning that had a lot of attention on him during the weekend was the elite five-star Denton Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill.

Hill made his first trip to Austin to visit Texas since the summer for the TCU game.

Given that this visit came just five days after he de-committed from the Texas A&M Aggies, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for Texas to make a big impression on Hill. And there was even some speculation that a successful weekend on the field could lead to Texas landing a commitment out of Hill.

Texas football reportedly still has a “great visit” with 5-Star LB Anthony Hill, despite the loss to TCU

Instead, Texas fans were left wondering what Texas’ status with some of the top priorities for the 2023 class was coming out of the weekend, Hill included.

The good news here is that it still sounds like Texas make a good impression on Hill and his camp, despite the lagging performance on the field from the offense. According to a report from Mike Roach of Horns247 on Nov. 14 (paid content), the trip to Texas last weekend was a “great visit” for Hill and his family.

Hill reportedly spent a good amount of time during the pregame with the elite five-star Texas quarterback commit and Isidore Newman product Arch Manning. Based on what we can see from this report, the reviews from Hill and his camp are better than I initially thought they would be coming out of the weekend.

It looks like you can thank the Texas defense for its big-time showing against a high-powered TCU offense for making a positive impression on Hill. Texas’ defense played one of its best games of the season and held a TCU offense that ranked among the top 10 scoring units in the FBS to just 17 points and less than 290 total yards.

While the visit wasn’t able to get Texas a commitment from Hill in the last couple of days, it still sounds like the defense made a great impression on him. Texas did a lot of what was likely needed to move the needle with Hill.

But we might have to wait out at least a couple of other visits for Hill before he makes his final decision, likely to come ahead of signing day next month.

Next. 4 overreactions from the impotent loss to TCU. dark

Texas is currently up to 21 commits in the 2023 class after flipping the highly touted four-star Austin Westlake edge rusher Colton Vasek from the Oklahoma Sooners last week. There are likely a few spots remaining for Texas to take commitments in the 2023 class, one of which would definitely be reserved for Hill.
