One of the most attractive open head coaching gigs around the college football landscape right now has a member of the Texas football staff that is connected as a potential candidate.

Various rumors and discussions in the last couple of months have consistently pegged the new Texas special assistant to the head coach and former TCU Horned Frogs longtime head coach Gary Patterson to the head coach vacancy with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

A lot of the initial shortlists concerning some possible Nebraska head coaching candidates mentioned Patterson.

Yet, Patterson took to social media to try and shut down any of the swirling rumors regarding his connection to the Nebraska job this week. He tweeted on the night of Nov. 15 that “I am committed to Sark and this staff to finish the journey”. He also said “please don’t believe any reports otherwise”, in reference to reports and discussions connecting him to the Nebraska job.

It’s worth noting that Patterson isn’t very active on social media. But he does occasionally take to Twitter to address various rumors and discussions that surround him.

Moreover, there aren’t any definitive favorites for the Nebraska vacancy at the moment. Nebraska is trying to replace former head coach Scott Frost, who was let go early this season. Mickey Joseph is currently serving as the interim head coach for the Huskers.

But according to a report from Tom Shatel of the Omaha World-Herald on Nov. 16, Joseph hasn’t even interviewed to become the next full-time Nebraska head football coach as of yet.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic did report earlier this week, though, that three of the top candidates at the moment for the Nebraska job are Lance Leipold, Matt Campbell, and Bill O’Brien.

There was no mention of Patterson as a frontrunner for the Nebraska job as it stands now in this report from Feldman. It also feels like Patterson and the Huskers didn’t have much smoke in the last few weeks in terms of actually reporting a connection between the two parties.
