Dud No. 1: Timmy Allen, F

For the second time in a row on the studs and duds list, senior forward and former Utah Utes transfer Timmy Allen gets the dud spot. Unfortunately for Allen, this wasn’t the best start to the season.

And this outing against Gonzaga was his least productive performance yet of three games so far this season. Allen finished up the night with just two points on an inefficient 1-of-5 shooting from the field. He also registered six rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block, and three turnovers.

There were some positive contributions that Allen made for this team on the defensive end of the floor. But foul trouble and poor offensive efficiency wound up keeping him off the floor for much of the night.

The good news was that senior forward Brock Cunningham really stepped up in his place off the bench, especially down the stretch in the first half. Cunningham was guarding Timme for a good stretch of this game and was very effective in the process.

Cunningham actually outscored Allen in this game, putting up eight points compared to Allen’s two. And he was more efficient on both ends of the floor.

All in all, Allen was a slow starter in a few seasons during his time playing for the Utes. I would hope that is the case here as Allen is averaging fewer than eight points per game now through the first three contests of the season. And he hasn’t done make in terms of positive contributions in any game so far this season.
