Throughout the week, there were questions concerning the health of the top quarterbacks for the Kansas Jayhawks ahead of an important Big 12 showdown against Texas football on Nov. 19. Head coach Lance Leipold has looming injuries that both junior quarterback Jalon Daniels and redshirt senior Jason Bean are working back from this week.

Daniels was Kansas’ starting quarterback that led them to that hot start that saw them go undefeated through the first five games of the season. But Daniels was unfortunately dealt a serious blow when he came up with a shoulder injury in Kansas’ Oct. 8 loss at home at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs.

Since that Oct. 8 loss to TCU, Daniels hasn’t taken any live-game reps for the Jayhawks.

In his absence, though, Bean has done a tremendous job taking the reigns for the Kansas offense. Despite coming up with a record of 1-3 in the games he’s started for the Jayhawks in Daniels’ absence, Bean has played well. Bean has an impressive 1,256 passing yards, 14 passing touchdowns, four interceptions, and 222 rushing yards with four rushing scores so far this season.

Unfortunately for Bean, he came up with an injury after taking a hit to his midsection in the fourth quarter in Kansas’ loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road last weekend.

Kansas QB Jalon Daniels is a “game-time decision” vs. Texas football in Week 12

This led to questions as to whether it would be Daniels or Bean getting the start for the Jayhawks this weekend as they host the Longhorns.

And we still don’t have a clear answer a couple of hours before kickoff in Lawrence. According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Nov. 19, Daniels is a “game-time decision” for the Jayhawks against the Longhorns in Week 12.

Daniels reportedly took increased reps in practice this week. Meanwhile, Bean took limited reps at quarterback earlier this week in practice, which led to the uncertainty surrounding his status for this game.

It sounds like this is the most optimism from the Kansas side yet that Daniels could make his return since he initially hurt his shoulder against TCU on Oct. 8.

And according to a report from Jeff Howe of Horns247 on Nov. 19, Texas is “likely to face” Daniels in this game.

We will continue to monitor this storyline as it gets closer to kickoff time in Lawrence between Texas and Kansas on Nov. 19.
