We witnessed an outcome that no one really anticipated in Lawrence on Nov. 19 as head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas football beat up on head coach Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks. Texas topped Kansas to the tune of a dominant 55-14 win on the road at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Week 12.

The biggest reason why Sark and the Longhorns were so dominant in this game was the incredible outing that star junior running back Bijan Robinson had against Kansas. Bijan had a career day with a whopping 243 rushing yards, 9.7 yards per carry, and four rushing touchdowns.

That tally of rushing yards and rushing scores were both career bests for Bijan.

But we also have to give credit to the offensive line, who had a tremendous outing in Week 12, and the performance from this defense that is on a roll in the last couple of games. Sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks was also great for Texas in Week 12.

Overreactions from the stomping that Bijan Robinson and Texas football put on Kansas

With all of that in mind, here’s a look at three overreactions coming out of Texas’ blowout win over Kansas on Nov. 19.

Texas has a realistic shot at the Big 12 Championship Game

I know that a lot of Texas fans are going to be up in arms at this take.

But I do think that, if Texas can take care of business in the regular season finale on Nov. 25 against the Baylor Bears at home, then there is a decent chance that this team could be playing for the Big 12 Championship.

The path for the Longhorns to get a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game is pretty simple. Texas must beat Baylor on Black Friday, and Kansas must beat the Kansas State Wildcats on Nov. 26. A Texas win and a Kansas State loss would put Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game for a rematch against head coach Sonny Dykes and the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs.

Moreover, while Kansas definitely won’t be favored against Kansas State in Week 13, I do think the Jayhawks match up with the Wildcats much better than it did against the Longhorns this weekend.

I believe that the combination of another week of rest and recovery for junior quarterback Jalon Daniels with the vulnerability that Kansas State’s defense showed in the last couple of weeks could make for an interesting game between the Jayhawks and Wildcats in Week 13.
