Jaydon Blue

Texas’ depth in the running back room is highlighted by the former highly touted blue-chip recruit and true freshman Jaydon Blue only getting 15 carries, almost exclusively in garbage time, this fall. Most Big 12 teams would have a freshman running back as talented as Blue at least in the top three in the rotation out of the backfield.

Thanks to the depth that Sark and running backs coach Tashard Choice amassed in the running back room, Blue has taken the fifth-most snaps in run plays among players at the position for the Longhorns this season.

Yet, if the running back room is going to be shorthanded thanks to Roschon’s Week 12 lower-leg injury, Blue could be in a spot to at least get a few more offensive snaps in the regular season finale.

Since most of the snaps that Blue has taken so far this season came in garbage time, I would imagine that Texas would have to get a sizable lead over Baylor next week for him to get any significant number of touches.

It is worth mentioning, though, that Blue got a season-high seven rushing attempts in the win over Kansas this weekend. If Texas gets another commanding lead in the finale, Blue could continue to see his workload rise down the stretch during his true freshman campaign.
