S’Maje Burrell, LB

We’ve often talked this season about the level of engagement that the Longhorns have with some of the top commitments in the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes, whether the team is winning or losing on the field. The level of engagement for the Longhorns with key commitments in the next couple of recruiting classes is on full display with the touted four-star Fort Worth North Crowley linebacker S’Maje Burrell.

Burrell makes his emotions and feelings known on social media game in and game out regarding Texas’ play on the field. He did so again in the midst of Texas’ dominant win over Kansas on Nov. 19.

It’s abundantly clear that Burrell was impressed with the play of the Texas defense for the second week in a row.

We’ve seen Burrell hold the likes of junior linebacker Jaylan Ford and senior DeMarvion Overshown in high regard this season. That should continue with the way that standout linebacker duo showed out of late.

Jaden Allen, CB

Another key blue-chip commit for the Longhorns that is clearly impressed with the play on the field of late is the highly touted four-star Aledo cornerback Jaden Allen. The longest-standing commitment in the Longhorns 2024 class looks fully engaged with Texas of late.

In fact, a lot of the activity on social media from Allen over the weekend was directed at the insane career day that Bijan had against Kansas. But we’ve also heard about how impressed Allen was with the play of the defense in the last couple of games.

Texas has done a nice job thwarting off any efforts from competing schools on the recruiting trail that are kicking the tires on the possibility of offering Allen. I’d imagine that trend will continue for Texas heading into the 2023 offseason.
