Cedric Baxter Jr., RB

In the last few weeks, all eyes remained on the status of the commitment of the newly-minted five-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. to Texas.

The Florida State Seminoles made a big run at Baxter in the last couple of months. That included Florida State hosting him for a couple of visits to Tallahassee for game weekends this fall. The last trip that Baxter took to Tallahassee was on Oct. 29, which was an official visit to see Florida State beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Moreover, a lot of the momentum that Florida State seemingly had with Baxter is dying down of late. Between Baxter’s reaction on social media to Texas’ win over Kansas last weekend, and what his dad said to Steve Wiltfong last week, I like where the Longhorns sit with the elite running back coming out of Week 12.

Bijan did a lot of the heavy lifting last weekend both to beat Kansas on the field and help Texas with Baxter on the recruiting trail. As I mentioned before, I like where Texas sits with Baxter right now. And it looks like RB coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns will be able to thwart the flip efforts from Florida State for Baxter as we approach signing day.

Anthony Hill, LB

The top priority remaining for the Longhorns 2023 class at this point of the fall is the elite five-star Denton Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill. The former Texas A&M Aggies commit took a visit to Austin to watch the Longhorns face the TCU Horned Frogs a couple of weeks ago.

And it still looks like Hill is paying close attention to what Texas is able to do on the field to close out the 2022 season. From the discussion we’ve heard coming out of the win over Kansas, Hill continues to be impressed with the play of the Texas defense of late, as he was against TCU in Week 11.

If Texas keeps impressing with its play on defense to round out the season, that will only help the chances for the Longhorns to seal the deal with Hill in the next few weeks.
