A constantly swirling rumor in the last few days surrounds the potential of sophomore Texas football wide receiver Xavier Worthy to test the waters in the NCAA Transfer Portal once the window opens in early December. Since the middle of last week, it seems like the Worthy to USC talk hasn’t slowed down on social media.

This rumor got to the point this week that a lot of people in the Texas media are talking about it. It’s hard to ignore the rumor at the moment.

What started a lot of this discussion was a piece from 247Sports that mentioned Worthy as a potential player that could enter the transfer portal once the December window opens up in a couple of weeks.

Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports also got a lot of people on social media responding to a tweet on Nov. 14 saying that Worthy could be headed to USC.

A lot of the noise surrounding this rumor was easier to ignore when it was mostly just message board and social media discussions. But it is starting to get a lot more real with a lot of talk amid legit USC media circles and Texas reporters taking place in the last few days.

It’s worth noting that Worthy was very close to entering the transfer portal last offseason. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns were ultimately able to get him to stick around during the offseason. But he has gotten very close to testing the waters in the portal very recently.

And given the plethora of media outlets and reporters talking about this possibility in the last couple of weeks, it’s getting too loud to ignore. To some degree, we have to entertain the legitimate possibility of Worthy being on portal watch at this point.

Worthy is having a down season with the Longhorns after putting up some stellar numbers during his true freshman campaign in 2021. He’s on pace to have roughly 200 fewer receiving yards and one or two fewer touchdowns than he did in 2021.
