Texas football RB Roschon Johnson ‘expected’ to go vs. Baylor
The most significant injury news coming out of the win over the Kansas Jayhawks for No. 24 ranked Texas football this week concerned senior running back Roschon Johnson. Following the dominant 55-14 win over Kansas on Nov. 19, Roschon was spotted in a walking boot.
He suffered an apparent lower-body injury which kept him sidelined throughout the entire second half last weekend.
Since Texas is set to host the Baylor Bears on a short week on Nov. 25, there were some concerns as to whether Roschon would be available for Senior Day. It’s usually not a good sign for a running back to be in a walking boot before a game on a short week.
But there are a lot of signs pointing to a quick return to the field for Roschon.
A report from Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas on Nov. 23 (paid content) indicates that Roschon is “expected to give it a go” against Baylor in Week 13.
Texas football likely to have RB Roschon Johnson back for the regular season finale
Granted, I don’t think that’s very surprising to anyone. Roschon tends to work his way back from injury pretty fast. That was evident when the ankle sprain he suffered during fall camp didn’t cause him to miss any games early this season.
It was also encouraging to hear head coach Steve Sarkisian mention in his Monday press conference on Nov. 21 that Roschon was essentially making good progress already since suffering a lower-leg injury in the win over Kansas.
Roschon was a force that led Texas to a win in the regular season finale last year, which also came on Black Friday. Texas was able to beat head coach Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats behind the efforts of Roschon, who took a significant number of snaps at quarterback in the wake of injury issues at the position for the Longhorns.
This could be the final game at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for the top two Texas running backs, star junior Bijan Robinson and Roschon. These two will be looking to get Texas its eighth win of the season on Nov. 25 against Baylor.
