It looks like Texas football is starting to make the month of December a big one in terms of hosting visiting recruits among the priority targets in the 2023 and 2024 classes. But the 2023 recruiting class will be the main focus for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff as they look to build out the visitor list ahead of signing day next month.

One of the initial visitors for the month of December was reported this week. Texas got its first official visit on the books for December this week with the three-star Covington Newton (GA) defensive lineman and West Virginia Mountaineers commit Justin Benton set to make the trip to Austin in a couple of weeks.

A report from Inside Texas on Nov. 23 confirms that Benton is going to take his official visit to Austin on Dec. 3, the same weekend as the Big 12 Championship Game. That is also one week after Texas’ regular season finale, which is set for Nov. 25 against the Baylor Bears.

This is probably going to be the final official visit that Benton takes before he makes his final college decision. He already took an official visit to Fayetteville to see the Arkansas Razorbacks host the Liberty Flames on the weekend of Nov. 5.

At this point of his recruitment, it looks like Benton’s decision is likely going to boil down to Texas, West Virginia, and Arkansas. And if Texas can knock it out of the park with this official visit to Austin in early December, this could be a big flip for defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns in the 2023 class.

Moreover, this will be the first time that Benton visits Austin. Texas offered Benton last month and was working to get a visit set up since that time. Davis and the Longhorns are likely looking to fill one more spot along the defensive line in the 2023 class.

Benton, three-star Wisconsin Badgers commit Roderick Pierce, and the elite five-star Texas A&M Aggies commit David Hicks are all remaining targets on the board for the Longhorns 2023 class along the defensive line ahead of signing day next month.

Texas currently holds commitments from 21 recruits in the 2023 class after flipping the highly touted four-star Austin Westlake edge rusher Colton Vasek from the Oklahoma Sooners. The two commits from defensive linemen that the Longhorns hold in the 2023 class at the moment are four-star Bergen Catholic (NJ) product Sydir Mitchell and Houston C.E. King product Dylan Spencer.
