The two former Alabama Crimson Tide players that joined the Texas football program last offseason by way of the NCAA Transfer Portal had turbulent beginnings to their time on the Forty Acres this year, to say the very least.

Former Alabama freshman wide receiver Agiye Hall didn’t get many live-game snaps for Texas on offense this season and will likely be redshirted in his first year with the program.

The other former Alabama transfer, senior tight end Jahleel Billingsley, isn’t even with the team as of the regular season finale for the Longhorns on Black Friday (Nov. 25).

According to a report from Justin Wells of Inside Texas on Nov. 24, Billingsley “is no longer with the program” after just a few games played for the Longhorns this season. Wells summed it up in this report by saying that “Billingsley’s tenure in Austin was short lived”.

TE Jahleel Billingsley could re-enter the portal or declare for the NFL Draft after leaving the Texas football program

Billingsley wound up playing in just four games this season. In those four games, he caught three passes for 38 receiving yards and no touchdowns. The most productive game on the season for Billingsley came in Texas’ road loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 22, where he posted two catches for 33 receiving yards.

That Oct. 22 game against Oklahoma State was also the only contest this season where Billingsley was on the field for a double-digit number of offensive snaps.

In total, Billingsley took 34 offensive snaps over the course of the four games he played this season. The most recent game he played for the Longhorns was the Nov. 12 loss at home to the TCU Horned Frogs.

The once-promising tenure for Billingsley in Austin now looks to be over. And now the question arises as to whether Billingsley will enter the transfer portal for the second time in his collegiate career or if he’ll test the waters in the NFL Draft heading into the 2023 offseason. We will continue to monitor this storyline as more comes out regarding Billingsley’s status for the draft.
