3 overreactions from Texas football’s hardy win over Baylor
Bijan Robinson has made the difference of three or four wins at least for Texas in 2022
The player that I’m definitely the most thankful for this season for the Longhorns is Bijan. The superstar third-year running back just continues to impress game in and game out for Texas.
In fact, I have a hard time believing that Texas gets anywhere close to the eight-win mark to round out the regular season without Bijan in the backfield this fall.
It’s crazy to think how much success coincides with Texas as an entire team when Bijan is really on.
When Bijan registers at least 150 rushing yards in a game this season, Texas is 4-0. That leaves the Longhorns at a mark of just 4-4 when Bijan is under 150 rushing yards.
You saw in the first half how stagnant the Texas offense can be at times this season when Bijan isn’t touching the ball on a regular basis. Texas posted just under 140 total yards of offense in the first half when Bijan touched the ball just seven times.
But when the Longhorns gave the ball to Bijan nearly two dozen times in the second half, the entire offense was more effective. Texas more than doubled the number of total yards of offense in the second half compared to the first half when Bijan became a mainstay in terms of the play calling.
Bijan was so good in the last two weeks that he essentially put the team on his back and carried them to a couple of wins. Granted, the Longhorns were going to convincingly defeat Kansas with or without Bijan. He just added more fuel to the fire for Texas to blow out Kansas in Lawrence last weekend.
All in all, I would love to see Bijan get a spot as a Heisman finalist in New York in a couple of weeks. After a regular season where he posted 1,894 total yards from scrimmage and 20 total touchdowns while averaging over six yards per carry, he probably deserves the finalist spot.
