Prince Dorbah, EDGE

There are more underclassmen that I could see entering the transfer portal on the offensive side of the ball than on defense at the conclusion of the regular season for the Longhorns.

Texas’ defense has more depth among the underclassmen that are contributing in notable ways this season.

If there is one player, though, among the Texas underclassmen on defense that saw his role diminish greatly down the stretch this season it’s sophomore edge rusher Prince Dorbah. The former blue-chip recruit and Highland Park, TX, product hasn’t taken a single defensive snap in the back half of the regular season.

Dorbah was in a spot where he was at least getting a double-digit number of defensive snaps more often than not in games in the first half of the regular season. He took nearly 70 defensive snaps in the first six games of the season.

Moreover, Dorbah was passed up on the depth chart as the season progressed by younger edge players such as freshman Justice Finkley, freshman Ethan Burke, and sophomore Barryn Sorrell. And even the former New Mexico State transfer/junior outside linebacker Devin Richardson even took more snaps at edge rusher in the second half of the season than Dorbah.

Assuming Dorbah is reading the writing on the wall here, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s already thinking about finding another destination where he get can more live-game reps and a shot to really make an impact on the field as a starter.
