NC State

One of my personal favorite landing spots for Card out of the portal next offseason is with former Texas offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tim Beck and the NC State Wolfpack in the ACC. Card could link up with the OC that spearheaded his recruitment for the Longhorns back in the day.

And NC State has many of the same offensive concepts that drew Card to want to play for Texas coming out of high school in Austin. Beck still runs many of the same concepts at NC State as their offensive coordinator that he did during his time calling plays under Tom Herman at Texas.

NC State is likely to have an opening at quarterback next year if Devin Leary does decide to take his talents to the NFL in 2023.

It’s also worth noting that NC State was one of the more competitive teams on a consistent basis in the ACC in the last half-decade or so under head coach Dave Doeren. He could find himself competing for ACC titles year in and year if he lands in Raleigh out of the portal in 2023.

The connections with the likes of Beck combined with the competitive situation Card could find himself in with the Wolfpack makes Raleigh and NC State a very appealing destination out of the portal.

Oregon

If the former Auburn transfer and senior dual-threat quarterback Bo Nix opts to leave college early and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, the Oregon Ducks could be an appealing landing spot for Card.

Not only would Oregon give Card a spot where he fits nicely with the spread option offensive scheme, but he could also compete for conference titles in the Power Five right away. Oregon was a contender for a spot in the College Football Playoff for much of the regular season.

And it wasn’t until head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks collapsed against the in-state rival Oregon State Beavers in Week 13 that Oregon was knocked out of the PAC-12 Championship Game.

If Oregon came that close to making it to the PAC-12 title game in the first year under Lanning, then think about what this team could potentially do in Year 2 under this staff.

Assuming that Nix does decide to leave for the NFL Draft in 2023, Oregon will be a very viable landing spot for Card if he is willing to go that far from home.
