Dud: Sir’Jabari Rice, SG

Another first for the studs and dud lists this season is the former New Mexico State Aggies senior transfer shooting guard/wing Sir’Jabari Rice appearing as a dud. Rice had multiple stud-like games for the Longhorns this season, this just didn’t happen to be one of them.

Now, before I get into some of the negatives I took away from Rice’s performance in the win over Creighton, I want to give a shoutout to his help defense. Rice was really aware and communicative off-ball on the defensive end, which played a vital role in Texas disrupting so much of Creighton’s offensive efforts in this game.

He also had two nice blocks, highlighting how disruptive he was on the defensive end.

Yet, Rice had a tough time getting his shot going from the field on this night. He shot a season-low 22.2 percent from the field (2-of-9 from the field and 1-of-6 from beyond the arc). Rice posted just five points in 26 minutes played.

Even when Rice was getting open looks from the field, especially from three-point range, he was out of sync. We saw a few wide-open three-point attempts from Rice late in the first half and throughout the second that wound up rimming out.

Rice also registered four rebounds (all defensive boards), one assist, one steal, and one turnover.

To sum this up, this is probably a game to forget for Rice as he wasn’t the usual net-positive player that we’re starting to know him to be on both ends of the floor.
