Texas Football: 3 5-Star recruits the Longhorns can land in December
Duce Robinson, TE
Among the offensive priority recruits for the Longhorns 2023 class at this point of the cycle, the best is clearly the elite five-star Pinnacle (AZ) tight end Duce Robinson.
Texas did a really nice job sticking it out in this recruitment to get to where they are now. Robinson had a successful official visit to Austin for the game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs, despite the loss for the Longhorns that weekend.
The very fact that Texas was able to keep in communication with Robinson and make this official visit to Austin happen is impressive in and of itself. Robinson was originally scheduled to take his official visit to Austin in September for the Texas-Alabama game at DKR.
A weather delay forced him to delay the official visit to Austin. And once four or six weeks passed since the original official visit date for Robinson to Austin, and there still wasn’t anything on the books regarding rescheduling the trip yet, it didn’t look great for Jeff Banks and Sark in this recruitment.
Moreover, Texas is now sitting in a top group of schools in the race to land a commitment from Robinson that also includes the USC Trojans and Georgia Bulldogs. And while a lot of the buzz still favors head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans in this recruitment, Georgia has made a big move this fall.
Despite the strong positions that USC and Georgia sit right now in the recruitment of Robinson, Texas still very much remains a player here.
If Robinson decides to push his decision timeline back to National Signing Day in early February, I think that would benefit the Longhorns. That would give more time for Sark and Banks to convince Robinson that Austin is the best place for him. And it could also give the Texas baseball program some time to help out in this recruitment upon the start of its regular season.
