It looks like head coach Steve Sarkisian and No. 21 ranked Texas football (in this week’s AP Poll and Coaches Poll) have their bowl destination set for this postseason. Reports are coming in that Texas will face Sark’s former team, the No. 9 ranked Washington Huskies out of the PAC-12 North, in the Alamo Bowl.

Longhorn Network tweeted on the afternoon of Dec. 4 that the Alamo Bowl is Texas’ “home away from home” with a picture showing the matchup of the Longhorns against the Huskies.

Brett McMurphy of the Action Network also reported on Dec. 4 that Texas will face Washington in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

Given the chances that Sark and the Longhorns were going to play in the Alamo Bowl anyway after the TCU Horned Frogs were selected for the College Football Playoff on the morning of Dec. 4, there looks to be enough proof out there to say that Texas is very likely locked into the Alamo Bowl.

If this holds, this will be the first time that the Longhorns play in the Alamo Bowl since the end of the 2020 season. Texas faced the Colorado Buffaloes out of the PAC-12 to round out the 2020 season, in what would be the final game under former head coach Tom Herman.

Texas dominated Colorado to the tune of a 55-23 win to round out the 2020 campaign.

Moreover, this will be the sixth time that the Longhorns play in the Alamo Bowl since it was first brought about during the 1993 season. The first time that Texas was in the Alamo Bowl was back in 2006 when it downed the Iowa Hawkeyes by a score of 26-24.

It will also be the third time in the last four seasons that Texas was the Big 12’s representative in the Alamo Bowl. In fact, the last three times that Texas was postseason eligible, it played in the Alamo Bowl.

This matchup will also have some intrigue since Sark will get to face the program he was the head coach for throughout the early 2010s. Sark was Washington’s head coach from 2009-2013, posting a record of 34-29 (.540 winning percentage).

Washington was also Sark’s first Division I head coaching job in college football.

Texas heads into the postseason with a mark of 8-4 (6-3 Big 12) following a win in the regular season finale on Nov. 25 at home over the Baylor Bears. Meanwhile, Washington comes into the postseason with a record of 10-2 (7-2 PAC-12) following a win in the Apple Cup on Nov. 26 over the Washington State Cougars.

Both the Longhorns and Huskies have some momentum heading into bowl season. Texas has won two straight while Washington has won a whopping six straight games.

The Alamo Bowl is set to kick off at 8 p.m. CT at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, on Dec. 29.
