The most recent offer handed out to a 2023 recruit by the Longhorns went to the increasingly-touted four-star Fort Worth North Crowley tight end and Vanderbilt Commodores commit Ka’Morreun Pimpton.

It’s hard to overstate how much the recruitment of Pimpton has picked up in the last couple of weeks. Pimpton went from having a little bit less attention on the recruiting trail in early November than he did the prior month to blowing up as of early December.

In the last 10 days alone, Pimpton scheduled an official visit to Baton Rouge to see the LSU Tigers and received offers from Texas and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. And according to a report from Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas on Dec. 8 (paid content), both Texas and the Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to get Pimpton on campus for an official visit next weekend.

It’s likely, though, that only one of Texas or Ohio State will be able to get an official visit locked in with Pimpton for the weekend of Dec. 17.

At the moment, it looks like LSU is making the biggest move in the race to flip Pimpton’s commitment from Vanderbilt with Texas and Ohio State trailing. Texas and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks would have to make a gigantic move with Pimpton in the next 10 days or so to get in a favorable spot to flip his commitment from Vandy.

While Texas looks to be fighting an uphill battle to some degree here, depending on how much the Dec. 7 offer moved the needle with Pimpton and his camp, it is certainly still possible that a flip could happen for the Longhorns.

Texas is clearly still seeking out another tight end in the 2023 class, despite holding commitments from two three-stars at the position already. Pimpton and the elite five-star Pinnacle (AZ) product Duce Robinson are the two priority targets to watch in the Longhorns 2023 class at the tight end position as early signing day approaches.
