TCU

Another very appealing Big 12 landing spot for transfer quarterbacks in the 2023 portal class is with head coach Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs.

TCU is likely to lose senior quarterback and Heisman finalist Max Duggan to the NFL Draft next offseason. Duggan is a big reason why TCU was inches away from winning the Big 12 Championship this fall. And he is a major factor as to why the Horned Frogs are a part of the four-team College Football Playoff field.

But if Duggan leaves for the NFL Draft, TCU will have to decide between current backup Chandler Morris and a potential portal quarterback to find the next starter at the position in 2023. That will be a tough decision for Dykes and the reigning Broyles Award winner, OC Garrett Riley.

If Leary was interested in coming to Fort Worth to be TCU’s next starting quarterback, I’d imagine that Dykes and the Horned Frogs staff would have a hard time saying no.

When healthy, Leary is one of the best pro-style quarterbacks in the country. And the drop-off from Duggan to Leary might essentially be non-existent.

The main question regarding Leary’s fit with TCU would be how his game meshes with Dykes and Riley’s offensive scheme. TCU runs an air-raid offense that still heavily relies on the ground game to set the tone. And the quarterback is left taking a lot of hits when option concepts are brought into the Frogs playcalling.

Leary isn’t much of a dual-threat quarterback, so that could be a limitation with this TCU offense.
