Ryan Niblett, WR

At this point, it should be crystal clear that the most concerning of the visits that any Texas commits took to Houston over the weekend was with the speedy and highly touted four-star Aldine Eisenhower (TX) wide receiver Ryan Niblett.

Texas covets Niblett’s commitment to the 2023 class. He’s a really nice fit in the Sark offense. Niblett’s schematic fit in this offense just makes too much sense.

But that didn’t stop Niblett from making the unofficial trip to see Holgorsen, assistant Corby Meekins, and the Cougars last weekend.

Even more concerning is that it sounds like Niblett is seriously considering the possibility of flipping his commitment from Texas to Houston in the not-too-distant future. There is the real possibility of Niblett making up his mind to flip from Texas to Houston before Sark and Marion are even able to make the in-home visit later this week.

A report from CJ Vogel of TFB Texas on Dec. 12 (donor content) notes that he feels like it is a coin flip at the moment that Niblett winds up flipping from the Longhorns. Granted, Vogel mentioned in this TFB Texas report that if Sark and the Longhorns can make it through the next 24-48 hours without Niblett flipping his commitment, that is a good sign that things are trending better for the staff in this recruitment.

It goes without saying that Niblett is an important piece to the Longhorns 2023 class. Texas is already pretty thin in terms of numbers at wideout in the 2023 class after losing the commitment of Wilson a couple of months ago along with missing out on the highly touted four-star Longview wide receiver Jalen Hale to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Losing Niblett is something that I believe this staff is prepared to go all out to avoid ahead of the early signing day.
