Of the three portal players on this list, the most likely to end up playing for the Longhorns next season is definitely the former Wake Forest Demon Deacons redshirt sophomore cornerback Gavin Holmes. As the first portal offer that Texas sent out for the 2023 class, Holmes is clearly a transfer of interest for this staff.

Holmes received an offer from Texas on Dec. 5. And it didn’t take long for Texas to get him on the books for a visit to Austin.

According to a report from Inside Texas on Dec. 13, Holmes will be taking an official visit to Austin this coming weekend. This will be the second portal visitor that the Longhorns host in Austin, with the first being the recent punter commit Sanborn.

Texas is likely looking at the 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Holmes to fill the field corner spot next year after the expected departure of super senior D’Shawn Jamison.

Holmes emerged as one of the most proficient corners in the ACC during the regular season. He ranked in the top 10 in the ACC this season in pass breakups with nine. And he was one of the better corners at defending the deep ball one-on-one in the ACC this fall.

The visit that Holmes is making to Austin this weekend will be the first trip he takes since entering the portal a little more than one week ago.
