Justin Benton, DL

Currently pledged to West Virginia

Among the defensive linemen that Texas is still recruiting ahead of the early signing day next week, the one that has the best chance of landing on the Forty Acres when it comes time to sign on the dotted line is the underrated three-star West Virginia Mountaineers commit and Covington Newton (GA) product Justin Benton.

Over the weekend, Benton took his official visit to Austin. And it sounds like he and his family came away very impressed with what they saw on the Forty Acres during the official trip a few days ago.

Texas is also planning an in-home visit with Benton before signing day arrives next week. It appears that the in-home visit with Benton is set to take place on Dec. 15 or 16. And Sark could be making an appearance on that key in-home visit.

If Sark does make the extra push for Benton, along with defensive line coach Bo Davis, during the in-home visit this week, that could be the final piece to the puzzle to flip his commitment from West Virginia. I think Texas’ fate with Benton heading into signing day is mostly dependent on how much Sark and Davis push for him in the next few days.

Given some recent events that transpired on the recruiting trail with a blue-chip Texas DL commit, it would make sense for Davis and the Longhorns to push hard to flip Benton from West Virginia. The recent news I’m referring to was the visit that four-star Houston C.E. King defensive lineman and Texas commit Dylan Spencer took last weekend to see the Houston Cougars.
