A massive storyline that was developing on the trail for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class a week ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period (beginning on Dec. 21) was the status of one key commitment. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion spent a lot of time earlier this week with some retention efforts with the highly touted four-star Aldine Eisenhower (TX) wide receiver Ryan Niblett.

Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns made an in-home visit with Niblett this week after he took an unofficial visit to see the Houston Cougars over the weekend. Niblett’s unofficial trip to Houston last weekend was both unannounced and concerning for the Longhorns considering he was legitimately considering flipping his commitment heading into early signing day.

Yet, it sounds like Texas is in a good spot with Niblett once again.

Niblett took to Instagram on Dec. 14 to post a couple of stories and a picture with him in Texas gear, seemingly reaffirming his commitment to the Longhorns. This is the most activity for Niblett on social media with any Texas-related content in the last couple of weeks, which is clearly a good sign regarding the status of his commitment to the Longhorns.

More confirmation of Niblett reaffirming his commitment to Texas arrived via a report from Joe Cook of Inside Texas on Dec. 14.

It looks like this should be enough to calm the concerns regarding the possibility of Niblett flipping his commitment from Texas to Houston. Texas fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it looks like there is a high probability of Niblett signing on the dotted line during the Early Signing Period next week.

Niblett is one of two wide receivers committed to the Longhorns 2023 class as of the morning of Dec. 14. The other is the elite five-star DeSoto product Johntay Cook. Texas also continues to push for a third wide receiver commit in the 2023 class with the four-star St. John Bosco product DeAndre Moore Jr.
