Tyler Scott, DB

Maybe the most underrated uncommitted recruit that is visiting Texas this weekend is the fast-rising three-star Mableton Pebblebrook (GA) safety Tyler Scott. Texas was one of the schools that got an offer out to Scott during his big senior season this fall.

Texas is fighting an uphill battle, though, in the race to land a commitment from Scott. Some big-time SEC programs are duking it out along with the Longhorns and USC Trojans among the top schools for Scott. The top trio of SEC schools in the race to land a commitment from Scott looks to include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, and Auburn Tigers.

But you can’t rule out Texas and USC in this recruitment either. Scott took his official visit to see USC last weekend. It didn’t seem like the official trip to USC moved the needle all that much for Scott, though.

Now it’s Texas’ turn to make a big move with Scott as signing day approaches. Texas will need to make a huge impression if it wants a fighting chance to land Scott when it comes to decision time for the Georgia defensive back.

Ka’Morreun Pimpton, TE

It looks as if Texas is very likely going to get an official visit from the rising four-star Fort Worth North Crowley tight end and Vanderbilt Commodores commit Ka’Morreun Pimpton this weekend. A report from Justin Wells of Inside Texas on Dec. 15 indicates that Pimpton is “expected” to be in Austin in the coming days.

Texas is battling it out with Vanderbilt and the LSU Tigers in the race to secure a commitment from Pimpton heading into signing day. But the early read on Pimpton’s recruitment for the next week or so looks to have a lot of turbulence in store.

It’s hard to tell what direction Pimpton is leaning at the moment. But if special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and the Longhorns can leave Pimpton with a positive impression coming out of the official visit this weekend, that might put them in the lead in this recruitment.

The momentum is changing fast of late in the race to land a commitment from Pimpton. But I like the combination of Texas having his teammate (Burrell) and the timing of the official visit to Austin this weekend. Texas could get the final word with Pimpton during an in-person visit before it comes to final decision time for the 6-foot-6 tight end.
