Another preferred walk-on was added to the 2023 Texas football recruiting class on Dec. 15. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian continue to have a premier walk-on program, adding recruits that have multiple scholarship offers from other FBS schools.

This walk-on pickup for the Longhorns is a familiar name to the fans on the Forty Acres, though.

Texas added a walk-on commitment this week from three-star Newport Beach Corona Del Mar (CA) linebacker Brady Sarkisian via an announcement on social media on Dec. 15. Brady is the son of Texas’ head coach.

Sarkisian also held FBS offers from the Marshall Thundering Herd and Arkansas State Red Wolves. Those two offers came within the span of about one month in May and June 2022.

Steve Sarkisian’s son, 3-Star LB Brady Sarkisian, committed to Texas football as a preferred walk-on

The 6-foot-1 and 230-pound Sarkisian took snaps on both sides of the ball for Corona Del Mar in the last few seasons. He was utilized as a hybrid outside linebacker/edge rusher on defense as he has a natural ability to find the football in run defense. Sarkisian combines that natural nose for the football with some power and drive coming from a strong base in his lower body to get to opposing quarterbacks in the pass rush.

That power and drive are also noticeable when Sarkisian was utilized as a flex/blocking tight end in jumbo sets on offense. He came up with two pancake blocks on offense during his senior season this fall, according to MaxPreps.

Sarkisian was productive for a Corona Del Mar defense that helped lead the team to a record of 9-4 during the 2022 season in the Sunset Football Conference as part of the CIF Southern Section.

For the first time in his high school football career, Sarkisian raked in double-digit tackles for loss with 11.0. He also registered 33 combined tackles, five sacks, and two pass breakups. Sarkisian racked up more than 65 combined tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks in the last two seasons for Corona Del Mar.

Sarkisian is the second preferred walk-on to commit to the Longhorns this week. The other was the towering 6-foot-6 Dallas Hillcrest kicker/punter specialist Reed Malphurs, who announced his pledge to Texas on social media on Dec. 13.
