Ja’Kobi Lane, WR

One of the priority recruits for the Longhorns 2023 class that we’re following very closely heading into the first signing day is the highly touted and gifted four-star USC Trojans commit/Mesa Red Mountain wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane. Texas had made this recruitment really interesting with USC trying to stave off the flip efforts from Sark, wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns in recent weeks.

Marion and the Longhorns have not let up in the recruitment of Lane in the last few weeks. The communication was constant of late and it looks like the staff is giving Lane something to think about heading into the first signing day.

And while I wouldn’t quite put it at a coin flip’s chance yet that Texas is able to flip the commitment of Lane next week, it still wouldn’t shock me if he does wind up on the Forty Acres when it comes time for him to sign on the dotted line.

We also have to mention that the Arizona State Sun Devils continue to push for Lane. There was a Tik Tok post that was recently deleted that showed Lane in Arizona State gear. But then, Lane was seen repping USC gear again at the All-American Bowl this week.

It looks like Lane was expected on campus at USC for an official trip this weekend. But I don’t know if Lane actually made it to USC for the visit.

If Lane didn’t make it to campus, it looks like the efforts from the likes of the Longhorns and Sun Devils to flip his commitment from USC are paying off.

With a final decision likely to come from Lane in the coming days, this recruitment is going to be pretty wild as Texas and Arizona State continue to chip away at his commitment to USC. And the longer we go without Lane officially shutting down his recruitment, the more likely the odds are that he winds up elsewhere on signing day.
