Dec. 19 marked the second consecutive day that we saw a former Texas football player find his next home out of the NCAA Transfer Portal as part of the 2023 class. Early this week, the former Texas redshirt sophomore offensive tackle/flex blocking tight end Andrej Karic took to social media to announce his next stop out of the transfer portal.

Karic announced on his Instagram page on Dec. 19 that he is committing to head coach Josh Heupel, offensive line coach Glen Elarbee, and the Tennessee Volunteers out of the portal.

Tennessee is getting a former blue-chip recruit hailing out of Southlake High School in Southlake, TX, in the third-year offensive tackle Karic. During his three seasons playing for the Longhorns, the 6-foot-4 and 305-pound Karic mostly saw action at offensive tackle. He got two starts in the last couple of seasons.

And Karic took nearly 550 offensive snaps over the course of the three seasons he played for Texas. During the 2022 regular season, Karic allowed two quarterback pressures and one sack on 40 snaps in pass protection. The bulk of the 162 offensive snaps that Karic took with the Longhorns this fall came in run blocking.

Moreover, Karic is the first portal addition for the Vols among offensive linemen. He should be able to help Tennessee replace some of the depth it is losing at offensive tackle, with two starters likely departing for the NFL after the bowl season.

Karic does have an ample amount of Power Five live-game experience under his belt, and he will have three years of eligibility remaining in Knoxville.

As part of the 2023 portal class, Karic is the second former Texas offensive lineman that has found a new home. The other is the former blue-chip recruit and sophomore offensive tackle Jaylen Garth, who committed to the Houston Cougars out of the portal back in August.

The other two Texas offensive linemen that are currently in the transfer portal that has yet to find a new home are senior interior offensive lineman Junior Angilau and redshirt sophomore interior offensive lineman Logan Parr.

Karic is the second former Longhorn to find a new home out of the portal in as many days. The other is the former Texas redshirt sophomore edge rusher and fellow blue-chip recruit Prince Dorbah, who committed to the Arizona State Sun Devils out of the portal on Dec. 18.
