Miami

One of the early competitors to emerge in the race to land a commitment from Hunter out of the portal to challenge Colorado is the Miami Hurricanes. First-year head coach Mario Cristobal and the Canes are picking up some pretty incredible momentum on the recruiting trail of late.

In fact, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Miami finishing with a top-two-ranked 2023 recruiting class in the nation at the conclusion of the Early Signing Period later this week.

Miami has already climbed up into the top three in the national class rankings for the 2023 cycle after landing four blue-chip commits in the last week alone. And that’s just what Cristobal and the Canes are doing on the trail with high school recruits.

It’s only a matter of time before that momentum spills over to recruiting in the portal.

What’s so impressive about all this momentum that Cristobal and his staff are building on the recruiting trail right now is the success they’re finding despite missing out on bowl eligibility this fall. Miami was one of the more disappointing teams in the ACC during the regular season, finishing up with a record of 5-7.

But it’s clear that the messaging and direction of the program that Cristobal is communicating with these recruits are making a huge impression. And that’s something that could resonate with Hunter, especially with some of the past connections he has with this staff.

Miami OC Josh Gattis was on staff with the Michigan Wolverines when they were recruiting him out of high school. The same could be said for Miami DC Kevin Steele when he held the same role with the Auburn Tigers a couple of years ago.

The early intel on Miami is that this will be a legitimate consideration for Hunter if Cristobal and his staff can make a big push for him out of the portal in the next few weeks.

And given the magic that Cristobal and his staff have worked on the recruiting trail in the last few weeks, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them get a big win out of the portal in the form of a commitment from Hunter.
