In a little bit less than 24 hours, the expected early signees (a good portion of which will be early enrollees) with the 2023 Texas football recruiting class will be able to officially sign on the dotted line.

This is always an exciting time for the Longhorns faithful to see such a prominent recruiting class officially come together on signing day.

And given the fact that well over 90 percent of high school recruits wind up signing their National Letters of Intent on the first day of the Early Signing Period, this is essentially now National Signing Day. The traditional National Signing Day is in early February 2023. But given the lack of decisions that are announced on the traditional National Signing Day, it really feels like that is now essentially the late signing period.

Heading into the first National Signing Day on Dec. 21, Texas holds commitments from 21 high school recruits in the 2023 class. More movement is expected on signing day, but the ballpark for the number of early signees in the Longhorns 2023 class is likely going to be somewhere just under 25 at the end of the Early Signing Period.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2023 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 4 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners.

Here’s a look at the expected early signees among the recruits currently committed to the Longhorns 2023 class, along with who is expected to commit and sign early on Dec. 21 but isn’t pledged to Texas at the moment (as of the early afternoon of Dec. 20).

** signals an expected early enrollee

Highlighted by a trio of five-star commits in quarterback Arch Manning, running back Cedric Baxter Jr., and linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., the group of early signees and early enrollees for the Longhorns looks to be very prominent. Texas will have a very impactful group of early enrollees, especially after landing a commitment from Hill and securing the pledge of Baxter.

Arch is the highest-rated recruit and expected early signee in the Longhorns 2023 class. Texas also has the top-ranked running back prospect in the nation in the 2023 class in Baxter and the top linebacker in the nation in the former Texas A&M Aggies commit Hill.

It’s also a big deal that all of the five-star commits that are expected to sign early as part of the Longhorns 2023 class are expected to enroll early.

Commits that could delay signing until February

  1. Derek Williams (Westgate 5-Star S): New Iberia, LA

Among the recruits currently committed to the Longhorns 2023 class, the elite five-star New Iberia (LA) safety is the only one that we expect to delay signing his letter of intent. There is still a chance, though, that Williams signs early on Dec. 21. The decision is very much up in the air right now, but I’m going to lean slightly toward him delaying this process.

Possible commitments that are expected to sign early

  1. **DeAndre Moore Jr. (St. John Bosco 4-Star WR): Bellflower, CA
  2. Ka’Morreun Pimpton (North Crowley 4-Star TE): Fort Worth, TX

The most likely of the possible commitments for the Longhorns on signing day is four-star Louisville wide receiver commit DeAndre Moore Jr.

It is less likely that four-star Vanderbilt tight end commit Ka’Morreun Pimpton commits to the Longhorns on signing day. But it still feels something like a coin flip’s chance that Pimpton flips to Texas on Dec. 21.

Another recruit to keep an eye on heading into signing day pertaining to the Longhorns 2023 class is four-star Waco Connally athlete Jelani McDonald. The former Oklahoma State commit is expected to sign his LOI this week but will announce his decision at the All-American Bowl on Jan. 7.
