Duce Robinson, TE

The target on the recruiting trail that a lot of Texas fans turned to at the conclusion of the first signing day is the elite five-star Pinnacle (AZ) tight end Duce Robinson.

Especially since Texas missed out on the fast-rising four-star Fort Worth North Crowley tight end and former Vanderbilt Commodores commit Ka’Morreun Pimpton to the LSU Tigers on Dec. 21, it makes sense that Robinson is the next focal point for the Longhorns in the 2023 class.

Regardless of whether Texas actually landed Pimpton, special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and the Longhorns were going to go after Robinson through the whistle on signing day in February 2023. Robinson is that level of prospect.

Just think about the historic class Texas could sign if it landed another top-ranked recruit at his position for this cycle. Texas already signed the top-ranked quarterback, running back, and linebacker recruits in the nation for the 2023 class. Robinson would bring that tally to four.

For a good while now, Robinson was assumed to be a USC Trojans lean. USC was the pole-setter in this recruitment for a little more than a year now. But it looks like that momentum on the recruiting trail with Robinson is starting to sway in the direction of the Georgia Bulldogs.

The latest 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction entered for Robinson projected his commitment to Georgia with a moderate level of confidence.

Texas will clearly still be fighting an uphill battle in the race to land a commitment from Robinson over USC and Georgia heading into the traditional signing day in February. But that won’t stop Banks and the Longhorns from pressing Robinson until he puts pen to paper on signing day.
