A name to watch as the attention now turns to recruiting during the 2023 calendar year is the underrated three-star Stanford Cardinal/Sierra Canyon (CA) defensive lineman commit Cameron Brandt.

As the lone Stanford commit that didn’t sign his letter of intent during the first signing day, it looks like Brandt is planning to make a final decision during the traditional National Signing Day in February (per a 247Sports report). Given that Texas still has a need along the defensive line in the 2023 class, Brandt is certainly a name to watch.

Texas was once interested in pursuing Brandt heading into the Early Signing Period. But the attention wound up mostly turning to the three-star West Virginia Mountaineers commit Justin Benton and the new Michigan Wolverines three-star commit Roderick Pierce.

Now that defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns still have a spot open in the 2023 class at the position, Brandt makes sense to fill a positional need.

The only defensive lineman that Texas signed in the 2023 class is the touted and enormous four-star Oradell Bergen Catholic (NJ) nose tackle Sydir Mitchell. Texas did have two defensive linemen committed to the 2023 class before four-star Houston C.E. King product Dylan Spencer flipped to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

But the fact of the matter is that Texas will need more depth in the trenches either by way of the transfer portal or from high school recruits in the 2023 class heading into spring ball.
