Texas Football: Position-by-position grades for the 2023 class post-NSD
Quarterback
# of signees: 1
It goes without saying what the grade is going to be for the Longhorns at the quarterback position in the 2023 class post-NSD1. Texas got the quarterback recruit that every single program in the country would love to have. And given who Texas landed at quarterback in the 2023 class, it makes sense that Sark at QB coach AJ Milwee didn’t go after a second player at the position out of the high school ranks or the portal.
Arch Manning, 5-Star QB (Isidore Newman, Louisiana)
The top-ranked 2023 recruit in the nation and five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning is the staple for the Longhorns class. Arch was the home run target for Sark and the Longhorns in the 2023 class. And he helped to build much of the foundation that this signing class is built on among high school recruits.
I have a hard time seeing Texas landing the likes of Baxter, Muhammad, Williams, Hill, and maybe even Cook without Arch’s commitment back in late June.
Moreover, the expectation is that Arch will redshirt in 2023 and wait one year behind redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers. Heading into the 2024 offseason, the offense should be Arch’s for the taking with the plan that Ewers will enter the NFL Draft that year.
There is no other grade that I could have for this position in the Longhorns in the 2023 class other than an A-plus.
QB grade: A+
And given how the Longhorns have a legitimate shot at closing on a top-three ranked 2023 recruiting class in the nation once this cycle is all said and done, I have to give a very positive grade for the entire group. This is one of the most well-rounded recruiting classes I’ve seen the Longhorns pull in the last decade thanks to Sark and his staff doing so well at major positions of need.
