Running back

# of signees: 2

The final two positions on the list for the Longhorns are much easier to grade out. Both running back and quarterback are finished products for the Longhorns in the 2023 class post-NSD1. And that is largely thanks to the first running back signee on this part of the list.

Cedric Baxter Jr., 5-Star RB (Orlando Edgewater)

The elite five-star Orlando Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. signed and is expected to enroll early at Texas to compete in spring ball. Baxter is going to compete right away for first-team reps at running back in practice next spring along with redshirt freshman Jonathon Brooks, freshman Jaydon Blue, and redshirt junior Keilan Robinson.

The highest upside of the bunch, both in terms of the ceiling and scheme fit with this offense, is definitely Baxter. His strength and cutting ability make him a next-level running back. And it’s easy to see why he was ranked as the top running back recruit in the nation for this cycle.

Tre Wisner, 3-Star RB (DeSoto)

Another Longhorns signee that was recently downgraded from a blue-chip to a three-star recruit is DeSoto running back Tre Wisner. Despite having a big senior campaign with the state-title winner DeSoto Eagles, Wisner finishes out the cycle with a three-star status.

Wisner is a quick running back that brings a good amount of versatility to the table. I actually really like the scheme fit for Wisner with the Texas offense. He can be utilized in multiple ways by Sark, including motioning out of the backfield pre-snap to become a receiving threat.
