Texas football sees a ‘legitimate opportunity to win’ 5-Star Duce Robinson
The biggest name to watch for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class following the conclusion of the first Early National Signing Day on Dec. 21 is the elite five-star Pinnacle (AZ) tight end Duce Robinson. Texas still appears to very much be in the running to land a commitment from Robinson when he arrives at a final decision on the traditional National Signing Day in February 2023.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian, special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks, and the Longhorns are clearly making Robinson their top priority in the 2023 class as we start to wrap up the Early Signing Period heading into the holiday weekend. Despite already signing two tight ends early in the 2023 class, Robinson still fills a need for the Longhorns as a true receiving threat at the position.
Texas is also going to continue to push hard for Robinson since the staff missed out on the fast-rising four-star Fort Worth North Crowley tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton after he flipped from the Vanderbilt Commodores to LSU Tigers on the first signing day (Dec. 21). The 6-foot-6 and 220-pound Pimpton was a key priority on signing day as a receiving tight end for the Longhorns 2023 class.
Texas football confident in its position with 5-Star TE Duce Robinson
The combination of the need to add a receiving tight end in the 2023 class alongside quarterback Arch Manning with the insane talent that Robinson brings to the table, it makes sense that he is valued so highly by this staff.
And it sounds like Texas is still hanging around among the top group of schools in Robinson’s recruitment as of late December. According to a report from Justin Wells of Inside Texas on Dec. 23 (paid content), people in the Longhorns camp feel like they have a “legitimate opportunity to win out” with Robinson when it’s all said and done in early February 2023.
The buzz surrounding the top schools for Robinson recently pegs the Georgia Bulldogs as the pacesetter in this recruitment. But the USC Trojans and Texas are still right there with Georgia in the race to land a commitment from Robinson.
Both Texas and Georgia are trending up with Robinson since he took official visits to each respective school this fall. Robinson took his official visit to Georgia on Sep. 23. And he made the official trip to Austin for the TCU Horned Frogs game on Nov. 12.
Robinson is one of just a handful of remaining priority recruits to watch for the Longhorns 2023 class after the Early Signing Period. We’re also still watching for the Jan. 7 announcement from the highly touted four-star Waco Connally athlete/linebacker Jelani McDonald.
