By far the most impressive hoops player in the 2024 class is the insanely talented five-star Dallas Lake Highlands shooting guard/wing Tre Johnson. The Dallas native is one of the highest-rated hoops prospects in the last decade. And the talent level that Johnson put on display at the outset of the 2022-23 high school basketball season at Lake Highlands certainly matches the hype surrounding his recruitment.

Johnson is the unanimous No. 1 2024 basketball recruit in the nation among all the major recruiting services. The 6-foot-5 and 180-pound budding superstar is tremendously skilled and developed in almost every phase of the game.

Johnson is a great shooter that can score at all levels of the offensive halfcourt. He’s got an incredible shot from deep that he could translate to become a 40 percent-plus shooter from deep at the collegiate level. Johnson also has a lightning-quick first step that allows him to get to the rim or at least get to the part of the floor that he wants to create his look.

The all-around playmaking ability is certainly there in abundance for Johnson too. He’s got a great handle on the basketball and has a very natural passing ability for a two-guard/wing.

The defensive game that Johnson brings to the table is also well ahead of his years. He’s a disruptive perimeter defender that can switch to three different positions without issue.

If Johnson is somehow able to reel in Johnson in the 2024 class, there would be no bigger win on the recruiting trail. Johnson has the makings of a future No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, which will likely come to fruition in 2025 with his current trajectory.
