On Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), a former 2024 Texas football commit and blue-chip in-state athlete Aeryn Hampton announced his top 10 finalist schools on Twitter. The four-star Daingerfield (TX) athlete Hampton included Texas in the midst of the latest round of his finalist school cuts.

This comes after Hampton de-committed from the Longhorns 2024 class back on Nov. 29, 2022, in which he included a message to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Hampton was committed to the Longhorns 2024 class for a good while, as he originally gave his pledge to Texas on Feb. 14, 2022.

Despite the commitment to Texas back in February, though, Hampton still took multiple visits to other schools. He’s made it clear that he was keeping his options open while he was still committed to Texas throughout much of the 2022 calendar year.

What is also clear is that Hampton will still consider the Longhorns moving forward. Granted, I don’t know if Texas is willing to prioritize this recruitment as much after the whirlwind that was Hampton’s recruitment throughout the summer and fall of 2022.

Nonetheless, Hampton included the Longhorns in a mix of 10 schools that is made up of a group of recent offers and programs that were after him for a while now on the recruiting trail.

The other nine schools that Hampton included among his finalist schools are the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Michigan Wolverines, Colorado Buffaloes, Ole Miss Rebels, TCU Horned Frogs, and Michigan State Spartans.

Schools that made this round of finalist cuts for Hampton such as Colorado and Nebraska that have new coaching staffs in place offered Hampton within the last couple of weeks. And those offers definitely caught his attention.
