The biggest defensive prospect that signed early last week with the 2023 Texas football recruiting class is the elite five-star Denton Ryan linebacker and former Texas A&M Aggies pledge Anthony Hill Jr. Landing Hill in the 2023 signing class gave Pete Kwiatkowski the top-rated linebacker recruit in the nation for this cycle, and a player that could make an immediate impact on this defensive front next fall.

Kwiatkowski clearly seems elated by the prospect of getting to coach and scheme up Hill on the Forty Acres starting next year, and rightly so. Hill is incredibly talented and is one of the more polished linebackers that is ready to assume a starting Power Five role as a true freshman of all the players at his position coming out of the 2023 class.

Hill is a physically-gifted and hard-hitting linebacker that is one of the biggest playmakers you’ll find coming straight out of high school at his position.

And PK spoke on what he sees out of Hill during a recent press conference this week ahead of the Alamo Bowl against the No. 12 Washington Huskies on Dec. 29.

PK gushed about what Hill brings to the table, essentially saying that he’s got gifts that are hard to find straight out of high school (transcription thanks to Orangebloods).

Co-DC Pete Kwiatkowski on what 5-Star Texas football LB signee Anthony Hill Jr. brings to the table

"“Anthony Hill obviously is a really good linebacker. He’s still a kid, but if you’ve watched him, he’s fast, and physical. He loves football. A lot of these guys, all these guys, that’s one of their traits that we’re trying to identify, the guys that love football, are into football, like to grind more so than the recruiting part of it.”"

PK also said to the media this week that he loves to find recruits that love getting down to work every day, stating he wants players that “like to compete and love the grind and the preparation part”.

He specifically called Hill out by name during this press conference, saying that he’s someone that just has “it” with some of his traits on and off the field.

PK also mentioned blue-chip early signees in the Longhorns 2023 class such as four-star edge rusher Derion Gullette and four-star defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell as players that he loves on and off the field.

But the fact of the matter is that there is no bigger defensive high school recruit that signed to the Longhorns 2023 class than the Denton native Hill. Landing Hill’s pledge and signing him in the last couple of weeks gives the Longhorns a potential immediate starter that can be a plug-and-play next season alongside All-American Jaylan Ford.

Signing Hill also gives the Longhorns three of the top-ranked recruits at their respective positions in the nation in the 2023 class. The other two are five-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. and five-star quarterback Arch Manning.
