Texas football releases unofficial depth chart for the Alamo Bowl
A little less than one hour before kickoff between No. 20 ranked Texas football and the No. 12 ranked Washington Huskies in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29, we have an idea of what the two-deep will look like for head coach Steve Sarkisian’s squad. Texas had an unofficial depth chart released on the afternoon of Dec. 29, thanks to Inside Texas.
The article with the release of the unofficial depth chart from Inside Texas mentions the obvious that the media two-deeps that came from Sark and the Longhorns this season didn’t hold much validity. Sark and his staff would often go in a different direction in terms of the split-up of the live-game reps position-by-position compared to how the pregame depth charts would otherwise indicate.
And throughout much of the season, Sark didn’t want to give the opposition any insight into the injury status of any key players or what the two-deep even looked like. That would at least be the case right up until about an hour ahead of kickoff.
This unofficial depth chart definitely has some interesting twists, though.
Texas football’s unofficial depth chart for the Alamo Bowl
We talked earlier in the day on Dec. 29 about how redshirt junior running back Keilan Robinson could be getting a bigger workload than originally anticipated at the outset of bowl practice. The unofficial depth chart could be proof of that school of thought given that Keilan is listed as the starting running back ahead of redshirt freshman Jonathon Brooks.
We can also see that freshman Maalik Murphy is listed as the backup quarterback behind redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers, which was expected for the bowl game.
Another important note from the unofficial depth chart is that sophomore Morice Blackwell Jr. is getting the start at strong-side linebacker. It was anticipated that senior Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey and Blackwell would combine to help make up for the loss of senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
That appears to be confirmed if this depth chart is any proof of what’s to come in terms of the defensive personnel in the Alamo Bowl.
Last but not least, it was interesting to me to see that senior D’Shawn Jamison was listed as an OR with freshman Terrance Brooks at the field cornerback position. I assumed that Brooks would be getting the start outright, but that might not be the case.
Texas heads into the Alamo Bowl with a record of 8-4 (6-3 Big 12) following a win over the Baylor Bears at home in the regular season finale on Nov. 25, by the final score of 38-27. Kickoff time between Texas and Washington in the Alamo Bowl is set for 8 p.m. CT at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Dec. 29.
