Zina Umeozulu, EDGE

Another critical defensive target of the Longhorns 2024 class that this staff appeared to have a lot of momentum with during the fall was the elite Allen edge rusher Zina Umeozulu. The brother of freshman Texas offensive tackle and fellow former four-star recruit Neto Umeozulu, Zina is a top talent that could fill a major position of need in the Longhorns 2024 class.

While Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate did some good work in the Longhorns 2023 class adding a lot of blue-chip edge rushers to add more strength to that position group, this spot will still be a priority during the 2024 cycle.

Moreover, it looks like the two top in-state edge rusher targets in the Longhorns 2024 class early on in the cycle are five-star Duncanville product Colin Simmons and Umeozulu. And the latter of those two elite edge rushers is someone that Texas is in a great spot for early in this recruitment.

Umeozulu was a frequent visitor on campus during the fall in Austin. He visited three times unofficially for Texas game weekends this fall, which was a lot more than he saw any other school.

At the moment, I would consider the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas the top three schools in the race to land a commitment from Umeozulu.

Granted, he didn’t make unofficial trips that we know of to Oklahoma or Texas A&M during the 2022 season.

Given that he was on campus so often during the fall along with the relationship he has with the defensive coaching staff, I would consider Texas the frontrunner with Umeozulu if one had to be named as of early January.
