Texas Football: 2 Longhorns signees that stood out at All-American Game
Derek Williams, S
The most important of the early signees for the Longhorns to get locked in on the first signing day last month, five-star New Iberia Westgate (LA) safety Derek Williams, had a solid showing at the All-American Game. Williams had one big play on defense in the All-American Game.
And it was good to see Williams showing out alongside the other elite Texas defensive back signee in the 2023 class. Williams joined four-star South Oak Cliff cornerback and fellow Texas early signee Malik Muhammad on Team Phantom.
You could see Muhammad and Williams in a picture together that the latter of those two Texas DB commits posted on Twitter with the caption “DBU”.
Moreover, the big play that Williams made in the All-American Game was a nice interception of Oklahoma Sooners five-star quarterback signee Jackson Arnold that came by way of a tip drill.
Hopefully, this is the first of many interceptions we see Williams haul in against the Oklahoma signee Arnold.
Another notable play that was made by one of the Texas defensive backs in the All-American Game was Muhammad coming up with a nice pass breakup. Muhammad broke up a pass that was intended for the three-star Utah Utes wide receiver signee Mikey Matthews.
It’s great to see the DB duo of Muhammad and Williams playing so well in the All-American Game. They will both be expected to contribute early for this Texas secondary as soon as next fall.
