Earlier this week, the Texas basketball program elected to part ways with head coach Chris Beard in the midst of his legal situation stemming from an arrest last month. Beard was originally arrested on Dec. 12 on third-degree felony assault charges.

Texas specifically parted ways with Beard on Jan. 5. We will now see acting head coach Rodney Terry lead the way for the Longhorns for the rest of the 2022-23 season. Terry has already served as the interim head coach for the last six games, posting a record of 5-1 (1-1 Big 12).

This Texas team has seemingly rallied around Terry amid the legal situation hanging over Beard and the program throughout the last month or so. Most of the players have spoken highly of Terry and the way he’s leading the team through a turbulent time off the court.

Texas basketball exes worth considering for the head coaching job next offseason

And while Terry could very well land the head coaching job following the firing of Beard this year, there are some other noteworthy candidates that the Longhorns faithful will be familiar with.

Among the potential coaching candidates to replace Beard are some prominent former Longhorns that I think this fan base would love to see leading the way for the men’s hoops program. There aren’t a ton of Texas Exes that would be viable candidates. Yet, there’s enough to consider diving deep into what a couple of former Longhorns could bring to the table for this program.

Here’s a look at two Texas Exes that could be viable coaching candidates for the Longhorns to replace Beard as the program’s next head coach.
