A gritty win for acting head coach Rodney Terry and No. 6 Texas basketball over head coach Mike Boynton and the Oklahoma State Cowboys was much-needed to get this team back on track on Jan. 7. Texas was able to pull off the sweep of the road games on the season against the Oklahoma schools by downing Oklahoma State in a low-scoring affair in Stillwater this weekend, by the final score of 56-46.

Both Texas and Oklahoma State struggled to get much of anything going offensively in this game. That was until the Longhorns started to find its stride late in the second half. Texas was able to shut down Oklahoma State completely on the defensive end of the floor at the conclusion of both halves.

That was definitely the case in the second half when the Pokes went the entire final eight minutes of the game without a single field goal. Oklahoma State also struggled to hit its free throws late.

The free-throw line wound up being a big deciding factor in this one. Oklahoma State hit just 12-of-21 from the charity stripe, while Texas was more efficient at a clip of 17-of-21.

And when you combine Oklahoma State’s offensive woes late in this game with Texas’ improved flow on offense, you get the outcome we had on this day in Stillwater.

This was so much better from Texas’ defense on Jan. 7 compared to what we saw from this unit against the Kansas State Wildcats on Jan. 3. Texas allowed less than half the amount of points scored against Oklahoma State on Jan. 7 than it did against Kansas State (116) earlier in the week.

Here’s a look at two studs and one dud from Texas’ perseverant 10-point win over Oklahoma State on the road at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater on Jan. 7.
