Arizona State lands former Texas football WR transfer Troy Omeire
A couple of former Texas football players found their next homes out of the NCAA Transfer Portal this weekend. Two Texas Exes that hit the transfer portal this offseason found a home with new head coach Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils in the PAC-12 on Jan. 8.
The most recent of the former Longhorns to land with Arizona State by way of the transfer portal this weekend is the former blue-chip recruit and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Troy Omeire.
On the afternoon of Jan. 8, Omeire tweeted out “home” with some pictures of him in Arizona State gear. That obviously references his commitment out of the portal to the Sun Devils.
The other Texas Ex that found a home out of the portal with the Sun Devils is the former USC Trojans redshirt sophomore safety Xavion Alford. This will be the third school that Alford has played for in four years in his collegiate career.

Alford spent one year playing for Texas and former head coach Tom Herman during the 2020 campaign. Meanwhile, Omeire spent three years at Texas.
Unfortunately for Omeire, though, most of his time at Texas was marred by knee injuries. Omeire missed his first two seasons in college due to some season-ending knee injuries he suffered in camp.
The good news for Omeire was that he looked healthier than ever before during the 2022 season. He even got his first live-game reps with the Longhorns during the 2022 campaign, where he registered one catch for nine yards in Texas’ season-opening win over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Sep. 3.

It looks as if Omeire found a good connection with former Texas assistant wide receivers coach and new Arizona State WR coach/pass game coordinator Ra’Shaad Samples since he entered the transfer portal a little more than one month ago.
Omeire will head to Arizona State with three years of eligibility remaining thanks to an injury redshirt and the COVID-19 redshirt season in 2020. He is a former four-star recruit that signed with the Longhorns 2020 class out of Fort Bend Austin High School in Sugar Land, TX.
