Texas Football: 4 best replacements for WR coach Brennan Marion
Brian Hartline, Ohio State WR coach
A name that will come to mind for most Texas fans that are already looking into some of the possible big-time candidates to replace Marion as the next wide receivers coach is Brian Hartline. The longtime Ohio State Buckeyes coach has continually risen up the ranks on Ryan Day’s staff in the last few years.
After Hartline’s playing days were done in the NFL, following a short stint with the Cleveland Browns in 2015, he went back to the college ranks to get his coaching career underway.
Hartline started out on the Ohio State staff in 2017 as an offensive quality control assistant. And after really making his name known within the Buckeye program in his first year as a quality control assistant, Hartline already had his first promotion in sight.
Following the conclusion of the 2017 season, Hartline would be promoted to the full-time position of wide receivers coach with Ohio State. He was very successful in his role as Ohio State’s wide receivers coach from 2018-2021.
In fact, Hartline did more than well enough to get a raise and title promotion on the Ohio State staff last year, also getting the tag of pass game coordinator.
All in all, Texas would have to pony up a lot of money to get Hartline from the Buckeyes. He is an Ohio State graduate and has found a lot of success on that staff as possibly the best and most consistent recruiter of any in his role in the entire country in the last few years.
According to the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings, Hartline is rated as the best recruiter among all wide receivers coaches in the entire country for the 2023 class. He’s held the title of the highest-rated recruiter by 247Sports among all WR coaches in the country for three of the last four cycles.
If Texas wants to try to go for the real home run hire, it’s hard to find a better candidate out there than Hartline.
