Texas Football: Xavier Worthy reacts to Brennan Marion leaving for UNLV
The big news of the weekend for the Texas football program saw wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion take the offensive coordinator position with the UNLV Rebels. A report from Bruce Feldman on Twitter on the morning of Jan. 8 indicated that Marion is “expected” to become UNLV’s next offensive coordinator under new head coach and former Arkansas Razorbacks defensive coordinator Barry Odom.
And with Marion likely leaving the Longhorns for the UNLV OC job, some of the players on the Forty Acres took the news to heart it looks like. One key Longhorns player that reacted on social media to the news of Marion likely leaving for the UNLV job was standout sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Worthy quote tweeted one of the reports saying that Marion was leaving for UNLV by giving him a “congrats”.
That also wasn’t the only reaction we got from Worthy on social media this weekend as it pertains to the Marion news.

Worthy spent one year playing under Marion. And while this wasn’t the best season for Worthy, as he regressed a good bit statistically compared to his breakout true freshman campaign in 2021, it does look like he had a really good relationship with Marion.
In fact, from what we know most of the Texas wideouts really took to Marion almost from the moment he was hired last offseason.
Marion wound up spending one season at Texas after head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns hired him away from the Pitt Panthers last offseason.
The former Pitt and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors wide receivers coach will now take his talents to UNLV where he will look to implement the “Go-Go” offensive system that he became known for during his time with the William & Mary Tribe and Howard Bison a few years ago.
Meanwhile, Worthy looks likely to return to Texas for the 2023 season amid some rumors swirling that he could test the waters in the NCAA Transfer Portal. Although, it will be interesting to see how the Worthy transfer discussion transpires in the coming days and weeks now that Marion has found another position.
Texas finished up the 2022 season with a record of 8-5 (6-3 Big 12) following a 27-20 loss in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 against the No. 12 Washington Huskies. Worthy and the Longhorns will now be on the search for a new wide receivers coach early in the 2023 offseason.
