TCU is held under 60 points

While there are certainly some aspects of this TCU team that worries me as a Texas fan, this also looks like a favorable matchup for the men in Burnt Orange. Texas has the better offense and a much more formidable backcourt than the Horned Frogs.

But TCU isn’t just going to roll over for Texas in this meeting. The Horned Frogs are also an experienced team that plays some disruptive defense and that boasts a solid frontcourt unit.

The type of team that has given TCU some real issues this season are the ones that can be ultra-disruptive on the perimeter. The Texas Tech Red Raiders managed to hold TCU more than 10 points under its average per game this season, despite a loss on the road in Fort Worth, by generating more than a dozen turnovers while holding the Frogs under 15 percent shooting from deep.

Meanwhile, Iowa State was able to pull off the upset of TCU in Fort Worth by being the only team to force more than 16 turnovers out of the Frogs so far this season.

Another team that was able to get TCU out of sorts thanks to some good pressure defense on the perimeter was the Northwestern State Demons. TCU had an off night shooting from deep, while Northwestern State was solid with its close-out defense on the perimeter, when the Demons pulled off the shocking one-point upset in Fort Worth on Nov. 14.

TCU shot just 2-of-21 from deep in that loss to Northwestern State a couple of months ago.

Texas showed once again that it can be disruptive on the perimeter against the Pokes last weekend. The Longhorns forced 16 turnovers out of Oklahoma State while holding the Pokes to just 28.6 percent shooting from deep. That is a recipe for success if the Longhorns can replicate that sort of defensive effort against TCU this week.
