Predicting Texas football’s next 2024 commit after 3-Star Trey Owens

There are a few top running back targets worth watching for the Longhorns 2024 class at this point of the cycle. Two of the most notable are the elite five-star IMG Academy product Jerrick Gibson and the highly touted four-star San Antonio Veterans Memorial product James Peoples.

It’s the latter of those two top Texas running back targets in the 2024 class that I want to talk about here, though.

It’s abundantly clear that Sark and running backs coach Tashard Choice have made a big impression on Peoples since he first received a Texas offer in June 2022. Texas looks to rank among the top schools for Peoples among the more than 20 that have offered him thus far.

The bond between Choice and Peoples only continued to flourish during the fall. Peoples got to see Texas beat up on the rival Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas on Oct. 8. And he made two other unofficial visits to Austin in 2022.

According to a report from Justin Wells of Inside Texas on Jan. 11 (paid content), Peoples wants to get back to Austin for another return visit in the near future. It now looks like that want will come to fruition for Peoples as he is on the visitor list for the Longhorns for Junior Day on Jan. 21.

If Texas keeps pushing in this recruitment the way that Choice and Sark have in the last six months, it’s going to be difficult for Peoples to choose any other destination when he makes his final decision.
